E-learning the need of the hour
Today we live in a fast pacing and ever
changing world, where most of the things are turning digitalized. And
understanding the growing importance of this digitalized world, St. Xavier’s
College, Mapusa is planning to implement e-learning courses. But before the
introduction of e-learning to the students, there was a two days workshop held
in the college on 25th and 26th March 2013, for the
entire teaching faculty of the college.
Both the days the workshop was began in the
morning, with a resource lecture addressing the faculty and giving them various
insights about the features of e-learning process. A few teachers shared their shared their
experience about this workshop.
“It was really very nice. We studied about
Moodle, which stands for modular object oriented dynamic learning environment.
Here the teachers could upload notes, there could be various quizzes conducted
online. Moodle, is very user friendly. Another interesting feature of this is
that the notes could be available through intranet as well as internet.” stated
Mr. Caje Pinto, from the department of Electronics.
Sunita Mesquita, from the Department of
English stated “The FEP, this year is centred around making the faculty
tech-savvy. As Mr. Wagh said that many could be “digitally challenged”, the two
days has given us scope to think beyond to make the teaching learning process
interesting for the students.”
“The
workshop was very good. We learned about moodle. It has a lot of features where
the notes would be put online, the grading system, and all the other learning
materiaI would be published on this moodle, besides there can be also online
chats conducted between the students and teachers. In today’s dynamic world,
e-learning would definitely lead us for the better” said Dr. Janet Fernandes e
De Souza, from the Department of psychology.
Miss Prajakta Kamat, from the Department of
Computer Science said, “It was a very interesting workshop. Basically
e-learning is the need of the hour. The use of pencil, pen should stop because
every institution should upgrade their methods of teaching to cope up with the
latest trend. Since today’s world requires swift changes that are effective
dynamically. This virtual learning environment allows teachers and students to
have the process of teaching and learning out of the box; out of the campus;
anytime, anywhere.”
“It was informative as it was applicative.
It will definitely enhance teaching skills.” said Shefali Kamat from the Department
of Philosophy.
St.
Xavier’s College Mapusa, understood the importance of e-learning in today’s
world and conducted a two days workshop for the entire faculty of St. Xavier’s
College. With importance of e-learning growing every single moment introducing
e-learning to the students is essential.
