Royden D’silva -- The Rising Star

“In today’s world, where we find a lot of youngsters in the gym, I met one individual, Mr. Royden D’silva, who stated, being on the ground makes him more fit than that of a gym... “
Royden D’silva, is a student of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa. He is specializing in English and Economics. He has completed his high school education at St. Brittos High School, Mapusa. He is a state level athlete and he has made everyone proud by winning the 2nd place at the state – level athletics relay, which took place at Fatorda.
Q. What was that one thing, which attracted you to the field of athletics?
Ans: Well it was my uncle. He was a sportsman himself. And right from childhood, I use to see him excelling in his field. That’s what impressed me towards the field of athletics.
Q. Who has been your role model?
Ans: My Uncle, Mr. Valentine D’silva, he has been my role model. He was the fastest runner in Goa, during his time. I found it quite fascinating. I also started working really very hard to achieve that standard and fame which my uncle had. I want to carry this legacy further.
Q. Do you receive full support from your parents?
Ans: I receive full support from my Dad. He has been very supportive and motivating right from the beginning. But my mom is very uncertain about this career.
Q. Do you think this career would provide you the name and fame, which every sportstar want?
Ans: Actually no, and the reason is also something I don’t understand. In India, besides cricket, other sports aren’t given much importance. This is quite disheartening for those who like and have that potential and caliber for other sports, besides cricket.
Q. So far your biggest achievement was winning silver at state level athletics relay. Tell us more about the entire experience.
Ans: It was an amazing feeling, this was the first time I participated at state – level, and I was lucky enough to become a part of the top 3. The Silver medal, I won at the relay is truly very close to my heart, and I would love to dedicate my victory to my uncle, who has always been my role model, right from childhood.
Q. Besides the relay, what else have been the highlights of your athletic career?
Ans: I have won the first place for 1500 km at school level and I also won the first place for 40o km for a relay.
Q. What is your message for all the young talent?
Ans: Be determined, play more games, spend more time on the playgrounds rather than that of gym. Do pushups & crunches and eat more fruits.

Thank You
